FOOTBALL: Albion star Andrew Whing's weekly column (March 19)

WE just didn't perform at Walsall on Tuesday evening, which is obviously very disappointing.

We were all on a high from Saturday after a fantasic result and it was a great chance to get back-to-back wins.

It was a very important game for us as we thought we were going the right way, with our performances improving.

But Tuesday was a massive set-back, and a right smack in the mouth.

We started sloppily right from the kick-off and it escalated from there.

It was a terrible performance, especially in the first half, when we conceded three sloppy goals.

The gaffer had drummed it into us that Walsall had lost 5-0 on Saturday and that they would come at us for the first 20 minutes.

We were expecting it but just played very poorly.

And all my family and friends were at the game, so it was very disappointing to perform like that.

The gaffer called us in for extra training yesterday and it was a chance for us to get everything from Tuesday out of our system.

It gives us a chance to concentrate on the match at Scunthorpe on Saturday, which is another hard game.

They are one of the best teams we have faced this season and it will be an extremely difficult game.

But, hopefully, we can go up there and get a result.

I was at Villa on Sunday when Gabriel Agbonlahor was booed off.

I stayed silent, although agreed he should be taken off, but the criticism is obviously a bit harsh.

He's played a lot of games and just hasn't been in the form he showed at the start of the season. And, unfortunately, I can't see Villa finishing in the top four now.
