FOOTBALL: Arundel face Crows in the FA Vase

ARUNDEL Football Club will host fellow County League side Crowborough in the FA Vase second round after a last-gasp 2-1 win at Combined Counties League Premier Division Molesey on Saturday.

Mullets will take on Crows, who were relegated from Ryman League Division 1 South last season, on November 14, and they are the only local survivors in the competition after Wick went down 2-1 at home to Faversham Town on Saturday.

On the tie with Crowborough, Mullets assistant manager Simon Butler said: "It's a draw against someone in our league, who haven't got off to a great start. We did lose to them earlier in the season when we were awful but they're beatable and it's a game we'll all look forward to."

At Molesey, Rob Grove fired Mullets ahead in the 14th minute when he chested down and drove home from Matt Axell's corner.

The returning Howard Neighbour, who has re-signed from Bognor Regis and scored 22 goals for Mullets last season, then fired wide and Grove went close with a header.

Lewis Hamilton also had an effort saved before Molesey equalised in the 35th minute when Matt Baxter scored a penalty following a handball decision.

Arundel had a spot-kick of their own with five minutes left, but Scott Tipper fired wide. Mullets got the winner in the first minute of injury-time when Dave Walker headed home Hamilton's free kick to grab his side 1,000 prize money.

Butler said: "It was a poor game but it's excellent to get through. There are plenty of positives to take out of it and we were the better side."

ARUNDEL: O'Connor; Sneller, Pickford, D.Walker, R.Biggs; Hamilton, Grove, Axell, J.Biggs; Tipper, Neighbour. Subs: Harwood, Mullen (Axell, Neighbour 90), Matt Huckett.

Wick produced a dominant second-half performance in their defeat to Kent Premier League side Faversham and Wick boss Vic Short said: "We have played much worse than that this season and won games.

"I think we deserved to win but just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net, it was one of those days. In the second half, we absolutely battered them '“ how we didn't get an equaliser I don't know."

Faversham took an early lead through Buster Smissen, when he headed over Wick keeper Alex Bryant.

Wick's Dan Swain then headed a Phil Turner cross over before Smissen doubled Faversham's lead when he nodded home at the back post from a corner.

After the break, Steve Boston halved the deficit from the penalty spot after Turner was pulled down and Daren Pearce and Swain then both went close to an equaliser.

Short added: "I'm disappointed we didn't at least force a replay up there, but I can't knock any of the lads for effort. Credit to Faversham, they were well organised and it was a good game of football."
