FOOTBALL: Colbran thrilled as Rebels make play-offs

WORTHING Football Club manager Simon Colbran was delighted after Rebels sealed their place in the Ryman League Division 1 South play-offs on Wednesday (April 21).

Rebels won 3-1 at Ashford Town and will play Godalming in the play-off semi-finals. The venue will be determined by Saturday's results and Colbran said: "It's taken a massive weight of my shoulders.

"We can enjoy Saturday and the play-offs because we are there and have got a chance of promotion.

"My aim at the beginning of the season was to get into the play-offs and we've achieved that. Personally, I'm delighted.

"Regarding the players, I think they have been brilliant all season - considering what they have been through.

"The supporters have also been fantastic - I keep thanking people but that's because it's not just about the management team."

Colbran has a full squad to choose from for Saturday's final league match of the season, at home to Fleet, with strikers Ben Williamson and David Pitt both back available.

Colbran could make changes to the side for Saturday and said: "We've played so many games already that I'll probably change the team for every game now to keep things fresh and to keep everyone on their toes.

"I rested Brett Patton at Ashford as it was the right time for him to have a rest.

"It was nothing to do with the way he has been playing because he's been excellent all season. But, although I've always said I'll play youngsters if they're good enough, it's also important to rest them, too.

"We've got a full squad now for the first time this season, so maybe our luck is beginning to change.

"It's all about us now. A couple of games ago I said that if we win our remaining six games, we'd be promoted.

"No one can stop us if we win our last three games now."
