FOOTBALL: County League weekly round-up

EAST Preston Football Club player-manager Paul Curtis was delighted with his team's 2-1 home win over promotion hopefuls Wealden.

Curtis said: "We played really well and the football was the best since I've been here. The attitude and commitment we showed was very pleasing."

EP got off to the worst possible start when Jack Divall put Wealden in front straight from the kick-off, but this helped EP settle and they equalised through Jay Huet in the 25th minute.

Kevin Budge followed up his own rebound on half-time to make it 2-1, and, despite the sending off of Huet, for a harsh second yellow, and a late siege from the visitors, EP held on.

Curtis added: "The nightmare start helped us, but the whole complexion of the game changed with Jay's sending off. We were dominant before then, but we held on and I'm pleased with what we've done recently."

EAST PRESTON: Kason; Beaney, Sutcliffe, Curtis, Waller; Howard, Nicholson, Da Costa, Burgess; Budge, Huet. Subs: Harris (Waller 10), Maymon (Beaney 46), Harrington (Nicholson 70), Deniz, Williamson.

Rustington joint manager Kevin Short was left frustrated by some refereeing decisions following their 2-2 home draw with Oakwood in Division 2 on Saturday.

Blues, who had Ryan Morten sent off for raising a hand in the 20th minute, went ahead through Andy Boxall, who fired home in the 15th minute.

Oakwood equalised in the 35th minute and went ahead with a debatable penalty on the stroke of half-time.

Steve Kirkham's 65th-minute penalty restored parity and Blues then had several chances to win it. Chris Kirkham missed a one-on-one, while his brother Steve struck the post.

Short said: "Some of the decisions were very frustrating, Ryan got sent off for raising his hand, their guy did exactly the same and only got booked.

"The penalty that we got was never a penalty, but then we didn't get one when we should have. Theirs was ridiculous, Jimmy Smith collided with the defender so how he gave it I don't know."

RUSTINGTON; McCarthy; Tucker, Wimbleton, Smith; Green, Morten, Bennett, Hudson, Boxall; S. Kirkham, C.Kirkham. Subs: Darwin (Boxall 60), C. Matthews (Tucker 70), Withers.

Clymping player-manager Dominic Di Paola was pleased with his team's 4-0 win at Westfield.

Clymping raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time, as Paul Brown put them ahead from Dave Gaskin's ball in the 20th minute, before the roles were reversed for Gaskin to make it 2-0 five minutes later.

Billy Rayner added the third from the penalty spot after Richard Ghent was fouled on 35 minutes, and Joe Stokes slotted home the fourth on the hour mark.

Di Paola said: "We pulled together and it was a good win. It was a great team performance.

"On the down side, we lost three players through injury as they're quite a physical side and Dave (Gaskin) ended the game in goal because Matt Paice had to go off with injury."

CLYMPING: Paice; Biggs, D.Di Paola, S.Di Paola, Young; Stokes, Castro, Rayner, Brown; Ghent, Moss. Subs: Gaskin (S.Di Paola 5), Bunting (Biggs 50), Quirosa (Ghent 60), Miller.

Littlehampton lost 2-1 at promotion-chasing Sidley, but Golds manager John Suter praised his team's performance, and said: "We worked hard but the quality that we needed wasn't quite there.

"We had a lot of players out through injury and suspension. We played on Thursday as well, so there were some tired legs. We defended resiliently against a good side, we gave our all, it just wasn't enough."

Matt MacLean fired Sidley in front in the 15th minute, but Barney Boutwood flicked home the equaliser from Niall O'Hagan's long pass in the 20th minute. Kenny Pogue fired wide before half-time, but MacLean restored the lead five minutes after the break, and that was the way it stayed.

LITTLEHAMPTON: Gillard; Young, Windsor, O'Hagan, Hazell; Buckett, Manning, Tabor, Peacock; Russell, Boutwood. Subs: Beadle, Wollers (Manning, Peacock 71), Janman (Russell 80).

Wick's inconsistent form continued on Saturday as they went down 2-0 at home to Peacehaven in Division 1.

The result means Wick are now without a win in their past four league games, after drawing two and losing two.

Third-placed Peacehaven came out of the blocks quickly and got the perfect start as Clive Snell put them ahead after just four minutes.

Thomas Levitt doubled the score line and put Peacehaven two up just eight minutes later, after his initial effort from the penalty spot was saved by the Alex Bryant.

The penalty was awarded when Levitt had rushed through the Wick defence with Bryant advancing, and Levitt had put the ball into the air in an attempt to lift the ball over Bryant when they collided.

Bryant saved the spot-kick only for the striker to bury the re-bound.Wick then lost Scott Murfin who went off a recurrence of his groin strain, as they fought out a half with very few attacks mounted.

In the second half Wick came out with a different attitude and took the game to Peacehaven.

But despite lots of possession they could find no way through, while Peacehaven were content with hitting Wick on the break and did so a few times, which produced good saves from Bryant or cut-outs from the defence.

Wick were caught out again in the 80th minute when Peacehaven broke forwards. Only a bad tackle from Simon Clayton denied them a third, for which he saw a straight red card.

WICK: Bryant; Torode, Sharman, Clayton, Buckland; Gaskin, Pearce, French, Huggett; More, S.Murfin. Subs: Hand (S.Murfin 11),Turner, N.Murfin, Nolan.
