FOOTBALL: D'Anzi is Wick's new boss

WICK Football Club have appointed Italian ex-professional Carmelo D'Anzi as their new manager.

The club will be hoping 53-year-old D'Anzi, who has played professionally in his native country, Mexico and America, will bring some Italian magic to the fold next term after the departure of ex-boss Carl Stabler at the end of the last season.

Locally-unknown D'Anzi, who moved to the country just over six months ago to open a new business, has always been involved in football, and, after his playing career, spent time as a professional coach in America, working with both junior and senior sides.

Stabler's assistant, John Sharman, has also stayed on in the same role for D'Anzi.

Chairman Keith Croft was delighted to appoint D'Anzi. He said: "It's a real breath of fresh air and I'm thoroughly pleased to have the pair on board. With John we'll have a bit of stability from last year and, hopefully, now Carmelo can take the club forward.

"Obviously, you can never be too sure how things will go, but I'm quietly confident.

"I'm really pleased. Carmelo is a really nice fellow. He speaks very good English and comes across as an intelligent guy.

"With him coming in unknown will be of benefit as it gives everyone an opportunity; those players that have been pigeon-holed and told maybe they weren't good enough by other managers will get a clean slate."
