FOOTBALL: Former Albion captain Danny Cullip's weekly column (December 3)

IT was great to see Brighton get through to the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday after they beat Rushden & Diamonds.

Playing Rushden brought back fond memories for me after I scored my best-ever goal against them in an FA Cup match, which was live on Sky.

It was when Bobby Zamora scored for the 10th consecutive game to break a club record in a 2-1 win. I beat a player with the outside of my right foot, then belted in a left-footer but I paid for it as I pulled my groin because I didn't normally kick with my left foot.

Some people looked at the draw for the next round and were disappointed but I look at it as a great chance to reach the fourth round.

I fancy our chances against either Stockport or Torquay and if we can get on a little cup run, that would be great.

I went to the Charlton game, where I hoped to bump into my old mate, Deon Burton.

I played in the same Sunday team as him and we were good friends growing up.

We played against each other quite a few times and he's a good player and a strong boy. But I always tried to give him a kick, just to slow him down.

Worthing College defeated John Ruskin school from South Croydon 2-1 last Wednesday to get revenge on them as they're the only side to have beaten us this season.

The conditions, though, were the worst I've ever been involved in. We kicked off at 2pm and if we'd kicked off 10 minutes later, I think the game would have been abandoned as it was so dark and hailing down, that you couldn't see anything.

We had some of our group from the Personal Best programme stewarding at the game on Saturday. And, on Friday, our group were shown around the new stadium at Falmer, which is looking great.

It was the first time I've been up and it's pretty awesome. I drive past it every day and to see all the steel go up is just brilliant.

In the monthly PFA magazine, there's an upcoming article about Brighton having a department made up of ex pros.

The PFA are really pleased with what the club is doing and we're hoping to get more Football League awards for our number of programmes, which we do.
