FOOTBALL: Golds get fifth successive win

LITTLEHAMPTON Football Club's revival continued as they extended their winning run in County League Division 2 to five games, with a 5-0 humbling of Storrington.

What a difference a few months makes. At the end of November, Golds were sitting second from bottom and in the relegation zone, but just seven league games later, six of which have been wins, they are in a healthy-looking eighth position, with the potential to push even higher with their games in hand.

Despite this, joint manager John Suter is still looking down the table and reserving judgement until they have faced their next few games, which starts with a difficult trip to his old club Worthing United on Saturday.

He said: "It's nice to get another three points on the board and take a further step away from the relegation zone. We're not playing teams at the top at the moment and I wouldn't like our results to be misleading.

"It'll be a real test to see how far we've come on Saturday when we play Worthing and then against Rye, who have been performing very well recently, the following week."

It was fairly comprehensive in the end for Golds, but Suter thought a number of missed chances in the first half were going to come back to haunt them.

Storrington keeper Gary Elliott made a fine save, pushing Barney Boutwood's effort onto the bar, before scuffed shots and efforts failed to test Swans' goalkeeper further.

Swans came back into the game a little and had a few chances of their own, but Golds did take the lead before the break. Jamie Buckett was pulled down in the penalty box just before the break and Joel Sayers scored the spot-kick.

After the break, they soon had a second as Gary Young put away Matt Russell, who cut back from the line to tee up Idriz Adedoja.

Boutwood quickly added another on 57 minutes, finishing a good move into the top corner.

The fourth was an own goal by Chris Watton on 81 minutes, after Matt Windsor's free kick clipped his head and wrong-footed Elliott.

Gary Charman then wrapped up the scoring late on.
