FOOTBALL: Rebel Williamson set for four-week Hoddle trial

REBELS striker Ben Williamson will attend a four-week trial at Glenn Hoddle's Football Academy in January.

Williamson went out to Gibraltar for a five-day trial last week but was unable to train owing to a heel injury.

He has had two separate spells out through injury this season but has still netted six goals in 13 matches, and said: "I spoke to Glenn out there and he just told me to see how my injury goes.

"It was a good standard and the facilities were amazing.

"I go back out in January for a four-week trial. After that, I'll either get offered a two-year contract, won't get a contract, or will be asked to stay for a longer trial."

Williamson, who was at Millwall aged 13 and 14, added: "My aim is to get with a professional club.

"I will miss it here but I'll just see how everything goes.

"It would be a big decision to go to Spain, as I'd have to leave my family and missus and everyone."

Worthing will still have Williamson, who came off the bench to score on Saturday, for the immediate future, and he said: "I definitely believe we can win the league and it's onwards and upwards now."

Worthing manager Simon Colbran said: "We have done our best to help out the youngsters here.

"We want to see them go on and play for professional clubs."

Ross Treleaven will not be taking his trial for the Academy any further, after he decided he does not want to move abroad.

Midfielder Karl Akehurst is still being monitored, though, and Colbran said: "Karl's been brilliant every single game and is going to be some player.

"He's just getting better and better all the time."
