FOOTBALL: Rebels win at Godalming

WORTHING Football Club recorded their fifth successive Ryman League Division 1 South win with a 1-0 victory at Godalming on Thursday (March 11).

Rebels controlled the first half and Evan Archibald got the only goal of the game in the 30th minute when he scored for the sixth consecutive match. He got through one-on-one and after the Godalming keeper saved his first effort, Archibald knocked home the rebound.

Godalming pressed for an equaliser late on but Worthing held on to clinch the double over their promotion rivals.

Rebels remain in third place with the victory but are now a point behind leaders Folkestone, who have a game in hand.

Godalming stay sixth, one place outside of the play-off positions, but are now 12 points adrift of Worthing, although they do have three games in hand.

Worthing boss Simon Colbran said: "It's a brilliant result. Any kind of result would have been decent there as it's a hard place to go.

"The back five were outstanding, as was everyone.

"We'll just taking it game by game now. The next one's at Corinthian Casuals tomorrow (Saturday, March 13). We'll go there and see what we can do."
