FOOTBALL: Weekly County League round-up

LANCING Football Club manager Martin Gander praised his side's attitude and spirit after they recovered from a 4-1 deficit with 23 minutes to go on Saturday to draw 4-4 with Seaford in County League Division 2.

Gander said: "The game had everything and was quite incredible. We never gave up and our effort, spirit and attitude was fantastic.

"I felt that, even at 4-1 down, we were still in the game and I thought that once we scored we would go on to get something from it and so it proved.

"It's fantastic for Shaun Skipper to get his first goal for us, but Dan Ford picked up an injury after half-an-hour and we had to take him off but, hopefully, it's nothing too serious."

Chris Logan put Seaford ahead in the 12th minute, only for Ryan Loversidge to equaliser on 30 minutes from a Rob Partridge pass.

Lancers then squandered the chance to go ahead before the interval when Darren Boswell was fouled in the penalty area, but Partridge saw his spot-kick saved by Sheldon Levett.

Scott Dartnall put Seaford 2-1 ahead three minutes after half-time and Logan netted his second seven minutes later.

Lancing were then awarded another penalty and a route back into the game, but again Levett kept it out, this time from Nick Green.

Dartnall seemed to have put the match beyond Lancers with Seaford's fourth 25 minutes from time.

Dan Griffin had a shot cleared off the line before Tobi Hutchinson headed home a Boswell free kick with his first touch in the 70th minute.

Dan Griffin bundled in to make it 4-3 in the first minute of stoppage time before, incredibly, Skipper lobbed home in the last of the four added minutes to salvage the most dramatic of points.

LANCING: L.Green; Borrer, Ford, Mighall; Boswell, Beard, Sims, N.Green, Griffin; Partridge, R.Loversidge. Subs: McCabe (Ford 30 inj), Hutchinson (Partridge 65), Skipper (Green 67).

A late Adam Mitchell winner ensured that Worthing United moved back to the top of Division 2 with a 2-1 win over Wealden.

The result pleased United joint manager Fred Proto, who said: "It was a good, hard win, and we've returned to winning ways after the blip against Southwick.

"They're a good side and we've got some tough games coming up. We'll be looking for maximum points and then we can push on and, hopefully, open the gap in the new year.

"Andy Alexander has signed from Whitehawk, and he'll act as cover, while Julian Curnow is suspended. We've got Little Common on Saturday, which will be a tough game."

Mitchell, dual-signed with Worthing FC, had put United ahead five minutes before half-time, when he scored from the rebound after Darren Annis had been denied by a good save.

Stafford Browne then equalised from a Wesley Lopez free kick, but Mitchell got the winner from Annis' pass with time running out.

UNITED: Standen; Hunt, Alexander, Elliot; Joseph, Hayward, Hibberd, Carter, Green; Annis, Mitchell. Subs: Bentley (Green 83), Philpott, Beaney.

Storrington boss Ricky Hamilton was delighted with his side after they responded to their 3-2 defeat to Lancing last week with a 1-0 win at high-flying Little Common.

Craig Grantham scored the only goal on just two minutes and has now notched four in his last three games.

Steve Tasker crossed from the right to Liam Humphries, whose shot hit a post and Grantham reacted quickly to turn the ball home.

Grantham went close to a second but was denied by an excellent save and Kristian Harding shot just wide.

At the other end, Common had an effort ruled out for offside in the first half.

In the second period, Swans keeper Gary Elliott made two superb saves as his side held on to all three points.

Hamilton said: "I'm very pleased with the result and we played well.

"Calamitous defending in the Lancing game cost us three points but we defended very well and deserved the win.

"We had to have a re-shuffle at half-time as Richard Ayres came off but all the boys did a superb job.

"We had the wind with us in the second half, which was actually a disadvantage, as the ball kept running out of play.

"Gary Elliott made a couple of great saves and it was good to keep a clean sheet with a good defensive performance."

Swans have now won and lost seven of their 14 league games and Hamilton said: "The stats are a little bizarre and not ideal.

"We just need to eradicate the mistakes we are making as the league is very open.

"If you put two or three wins together, you're right up there. You just need to look at Loxwood. They've had a superb start, are a great team and are scoring lots of goals."

STORRINGTON: Elliott; Davis, Blaydon, Watton, Sleat; Tasker, Rhodie, Ayres, Humphries; Grantham, Harding. Subs: Tidman (Ayres 45), Hunter (Sleat 55), Carter (Davis 65).

Former Worthing United manager Paul Curtis is the new boss at East Preston.
