FOOTBALL: Worthing go down at YMCA

WORTHING Football Club went down 1-0 at Horsham YMCA on Monday (April 5) in Ryman League Division 1 South.

The defeat looks to have ended Rebels' title hopes after Croydon Athletic and Folkestone both won. Leaders Croydon now head third-placed Worthing, who have five matches to play, by six points and also have a game in hand.

In a scrappy game of few chances, YMCA got the only goal early in the second half from the penalty spot. Glen Woodburn fouled Matt Geard and Mike Huckett netted from the spot.

The closest Rebels went to equalising was on 85 minutes when Ben Williamson rounded YMCA keeper Tony Di Bernardo, but went wide, and Jamie Brotherton was just unable to reach his cross.

WORTHING: Mansfield; Denton, Axten, Woodburn, Groves; Brotherton, Patton, Akehurst, Johnson; Pitt, Archibald. Subs: Williamson (Pitt 45), Kennett (Akehurst 65, Greenfield (Groves 83), Woodford, Clarke. Att: 265.
