3-0 and 8-0 - Goal-happy Chichester are on the up

Two goals from Dan Hegarty and one from Jamie Horncastle saw City run out comfortable winners against East Preston.

On a freezing afternoon, Miles Rutherford’s side started brightly and could have been ahead after two minutes when Jimmy Wild broke through on goal and took the ball past the keeper, only for his effort to cannon into the side netting.

Alex Ansa had a good effort but was denied by Reece Markwick in goal.

East Preston came back fighting and Dan Huet went close for the away side when his effort from long range forced the Chi keeper into a good save.

Chichester finally scored just after half-time as Hegarty scored from close range after Markwick had a made a number of saves to deny Wild and Ansa.

Soon, Hegarty got his second when he headed home following a cross by new signing George Way and two minutes later, Horncastle wrapped up the victory when he headed in from a corner, moving Chi up to ninth.

Things got even better for City on Tuesday when they hammered St Francis. Josh Clack’s hat-trick was backed by goals by Wild (2), Matt Boulton, Way and Graham Bush in the rout.

City go to Newhaven on Saturday.
