Adams nets treble as Rye sink Chi

Sam Adams scored a hat-trick as Rye United won 4-1 away to Chichester City yesterday (Saturday).

Rye started the Sussex County Football League Division One match slowly and Chichester caused them a few problems without forcing Callum Christie into any saves.

But Rye gradually got into their stride and two goals in quick succession put them in command at half time. Nick Holland volleyed the opener from an Adams cross and Adams himself punished a poor defensive header moments later.

Although Rye conceded a scruffy goal to give Chichester hope, a lovely finish from Adams after good work from Holland made it 3-1 and Adams completed his treble with a penalty he won himself. Rye are up to fourth in with 11 points from a possible 15.

There was disappointment, however, for fellow Sussex Division One side Sidley United as they lost 2-0 away to Combined Counties Division One outfit Mole Valley SCR in FA Vase first round qualifying.

A Sidley team missing five key players performed reasonably well during a fairly even goalless first half, but Mole Valley got their noses in front courtesy of a spectacular 25-yard volley into the top corner.

Sidley’s task became even more difficult when they conceded a second following a defensive mix-up and they probably knew it wasn’t going to be their day when a Chris Agutter shot hit both posts before coming out.
