All set for final day promotion scrap

A fascinating final day of the season lies in prospect in the battle for promotion from Macron East Sussex Football League Division One.

The two teams tussling for the runners-up spot, Mountfield United and Bexhill AAC, will go head-to-head at Riverhall this coming Saturday.

Bexhill moved above Mountfield on goal difference after winning 5-0 at home to Ticehurst last weekend. Two goals apiece from Harry Saville and Doni Dovla, and one from Leigh Emmerson did the damage.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Premier Division runners-up Hollington United won 3-1 at home to Peche Hill Select, whose consolation was scored by Joe Page.

JC Tackleway secured the runners-up spot in Division Two after they won 3-1 at home to Herstmonceux and Old Hastonians lost 1-0 away to Wittersham.

Charlie Cornford, Jason Soan and Toby Shaw scored for Tackleway against a Herstmonceux side which replied through Ian Oliver. Charlie Stevens scored Wittersham’s winner against Hastonians.

Peche Hill Select II triumphed 2-0 against AFC Hastings in the winner-takes-all tussle for second place in Division Three. Ross Southwood and Ben Ferguson scored the goals.

Little Common III secured a third place finish in Division Four on the back of a 2-2 draw away to champions Peasmarsh United. Liam Sayer’s double for Peasmarsh was cancelled out by Will Spice and Connor Jackson.

Division Five champions Mayfield finished their season with a 2-0 win at home to Battle Baptists II, while runners-up Sedlescombe Rangers II prevailed 2-1 away to Parkfield in their last game.

Third-placed Grasshoppers Old Boys and Victoria Baptists received walkovers as respective opponents Wittersham II and Ticehurst II were unable to field teams.

JC Tackleway II were edged out 4-3 away to Hailsham Athletico despite goals from Marius Viorica, Chris Taylor and James Wicks.

Hawkhurst United II clinched the runners-up spot in Division Six via a 4-1 win away to Battle Baptists III. Gregory Daniel (2), Luke Williams and Conrad Woodgate scored for Hawkhurst, and Anthony Hickman retaliated.

Fourth-placed FC Westridge won 5-3 away to bottom side Icklesham Casuals II thanks to the finishing of Jordan Gladwish (2), Mark Cunningham, Mason Finch and Ricky Rogers. Phil Badrock (2) and Nicholas Bellhouse responded.

Iden booked their place in the Robertsbridge Charity Intermediate Cup final by way of a 2-0 win away to fellow Premier Division side Ninfield United. Goals from Sam Cooper and Alfie Weller put Iden through.

Three days earlier, JC Tackleway II won 7-2 at home to AFC St Leonards and Battle Baptists II won 5-3 at Wittersham II in Division Five.
