Appy: Hull boost delivers warning

Pompey's triumph over Hull has given them a precious psychological boost heading into the relegation run-in.

That is the verdict of Michael Appleton, who is convinced Tuesday’s timely 2-0 victory has got other clubs twitchy.

The Blues currently stand three points from safety heading into tomorrow’s Fratton Park visit of Burnley.

Suddenly, the daylight does not seem so quite far away.

And Appleton knows Pompey have now announced their intentions to rivals.

He said: ‘I think there is a psychological advantage being close to the safety mark.

’Our goal difference is also considerably better than the other teams down there. It’s worth an extra point.

‘We have a week to prepare for the following game after this one, so it’s all or nothing this week.

‘We won’t be holding anything back and, hopefully, will come away with another victory.

‘It almost became last-chance saloon and we knew we had to pick up the three points against Hull.

‘A draw wouldn’t have been good enough to put pressure on the other teams above us.

‘The result has now told the other teams we are here right up until the end.

‘If we get the same sort of performance, hopefully that will be good enough to get the three points.’
