Arundel cruise past Worthing United

ARUNDEL Football Club hit six in their John O’Hara Cup tie on Saturday when they stormed into the second round at the expense of division-lower Worthing United 6-1.

Mullets responded in style to their 5-1 defeat at Crawley Down last Tuesday and assistant manager Simon Butler said: “It was a good response from Tuesday and very pleasing as we see this cup as a realistic target.

“It can be difficult going to lower league sides but we’ve got a decent chance at home to Redhill in the next round. The lads went out there and did the business straight from the off and it was a good result.”

Aaron Meehan had fired United into a shock lead in the 15th minute, but the lead lasted only a minute, when the returning Rory Biggs fired home from 14 yards.

Scott Tipper put Mullets ahead from a Matt Axell free kick before Tipper made it 3-1 in first half injury-time.

Tipper then grabbed two early second-half goals to move on to 16 goals for the season and put Mullets 5-1 ahead, before a late Howard Neighbour strike completed the scoring eight minutes from time.
