Arundel too strong for Midhurst in Sussex Senior Cup

After a win in the Division Two Cup at Steyning, Midhurst had high hopes of further knockout success at home to Arundel in the Sussex Senior Cup '“ but the only knocking out being done was to them as they lost 6-1.

Although Arundel are in division one the fact they had not won a league game gave Midhurst confidence and they started well.

But on 25 minutes Arundel went ahead as Scott Tipper scored the first of his five for the game.

Midhurst were not unsettled and the midfield were giving a good display in containing an eager Arundel attack. But Midhurst were stretched and Tipper put the ball clear of Paul Williamson in the Midhurst goal twice more before the interval.

Five minutes after the break, spectators were puzzled when the referee indicated a penalty as ex-Rotherfield player Gary Norgate stumbled in the penalty area. It was converted by Tipper.

On 55 minutes there were mutterings from the home fans and players when Arundel were awarded another penalty which Tipper converted.

Then on the hour Steve Boston replied with a penalty for the home side. Norgate was on hand to add to Arundels’ tally.

Midhurst will need to tighten up in several areas if they are to start getting the points needed to avoid relegation.
