Mullets’ last County League Division 1 victory was back in mid-September and they have since lost eight of their nine games.

That form has left them in the bottom three, although, a controversial 2-2 draw against Rye on Saturday and a good performance against Brighton in the Sussex Senior Cup last week, has given the management team ground for optimism.

Mullets and Ringmer were level on points when the match kicked off, but the visitors’ victory, thanks to a 57th-minute goal from Jack McClean, lifted them up to 15th.

Scott Tipper gave Arundel a first-half lead on 17 minutes. Louis Pople equalised on the stroke of half-time, before McClean hit the winner.

Arundel’s joint manager Craig Stuart said: “We should have been 3-0 up and then we conceded a soft goal right on half-time. Obviously, against Rye we were ahead and then let in two late goals.

“We are not getting a great deal of luck. We had three players injured if you count the two that were out before the game - Russ Hardwell and Rory Biggs - and then we lost Lewis Jenkins just before half-time.

“They are three massive players for us, without them it takes our pace and that out of the game.

“We have got to keep positive and keep going. There is nothing wrong with the desire of the team.”

Mullets host high-flying Horsham YMCA, who are second in the table, on Saturday and then travel to Littlehampton on Tuesday.
