Athletic celebrate historic triumph

Ore Athletic have become the first team from Hastings to win the Sussex Junior Cup for 89 years.

The East Sussex Football League Division Two club emulated the achievement of Hastings Rock-a-Nore way back in 1923 courtesy of a 1-0 extra-time victory over Wittering United in the final last night (Tuesday).

Athletic manager Dave Cornelius said: “We are so very proud to bring it back home. The supporters were incredible yet again. They have followed us through seven rounds and we thank them.”

The Sussex Junior Cup was Athletic’s second trophy of the season having already won the Wisden Sports Challenge Cup and they could make it a treble this weekend. A win over Hastings Rangers would wrap up the league title.
