Awards mark fine season for Chichester City Ladies

Chichester City Ladies’ presentation evening celebrated the success of the senior sides for the season and acknowledged the female section as a whole with the first-ever combined ladies and girls’ end-of-season awards.

Since the new era which started six seasons ago, the female section has seen phenomenal growth from one senior side that was struggling to field a full team to a section that now boasts two senior sides and four girls’ teams.

The celebration was held in the recently-converted function room at Oaklands Park, so for the first time there was an opportunity to get all the females with friends and family together.

More than 200 people packed out the clubhouse to watch each section give out their various players awards along with many thanks being given to the variety of volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the club growing.

The first team took the opportunity to acknowledge their significant progress, with Emily Symonds named their most improved player.

Players’ player was won by the popular Lucie Challen, who has worked tirelessly in a variety of positions on the park, and manager’s player went to newcomer Becky Barron, who has played every minute of every match this season in central midfield.

The development squad’s most improved, players’ player and manager’s player awards went to Rachel Towler, Ellie Hawes and Gemma Halford respectively.

The evening allowed the young players an opportunity to look up to potential role models while the seniors could see the plethora of talent coming through the section.

Next season will see the introduction of another girls’ side, thus the tidal wave of female football in Chichester will continue to gain momentum.
