Away success for Rustington at Mile Oak

RUSTINGTON Football Club won 2-0 at Mile Oak in County League Division 2 on Wednesday (August 17) thanks to goals from James Bennett and Matt Windsor to continue their 100 per cent start to the new season.

Bennett dispatched the first goal from the penalty spot on nine minutes after a clumsy challenge on Steve Kirkham, reports James Hilsum.

The second goal came on the hour mark when Ryan Hudson’s corner fell to Windsor, who slotted the ball home.

Blues manager Brett Torode said: “It wasn’t pretty, but it was effective as Mile Oak were much better than us in the first half, so we had to defend properly.”

Oak were left to rue a number of missed opportunities in the second half, as the final delivery into the penalty box was not good enough to trouble Blues’ defence.

Despite the defeat, Oak manager Anthony Whittington remained upbeat about his team’s performance and identified Rustington as one of the strongest sides in the division. He said: “We did concede a couple of sloppy goals, but we’re not too concerned about last night as we dominated possession and produced an encouraging performance against a strong side.”
