The pair missed Brighton’s 1-0 win at Blackburn last weekend but Seagulls manager Chris Hughton is hoping they come through training tomorrow to be in contention.

He said: “Sam and Gordon are both very close. It will just be a question of whether they train tomorrow and if they do then that puts them in the frame to be involved on Saturday.

“But if they don’t, then they will be looking at coming back for the next game.”

Central defender Uwe Hunemeier is still ruled out with the groin injury he sustained against Middlesbrough last month and Hughton said: “Uwe is coming along nicely but he has not been involved in any training sessions with the team, he’s just been out running.

“He’s still a few weeks away from returning, which is a little disappointing.”
