Barnham Cave in

Barnham were hoping for all three points in order to keep their Sussex League division three title hopes alive '“ but Shipley had other plans and decided to spoil the hosts' day with a last-minute Mark Cave winner for a 3-2 victory.

Barnham started well and after an initial spell of pressure, Ash Harper opened the scoring with a trademark finish having been one on one with the TD goalkeeper.

Shipley began to find their feet and equalised through Craig Lamper after the home side failed to clear the ball on several occasions.

The second half started much the same as the first with Barnham looking to regain the lead and TD trying to break up play.

Vetren Mark Pedrick gave Barnham the lead, coolly finishing from five yards after a great counter-attack involving the in-form Harper.

But the Trojans hadn’t learned the previous lesson of clearing their lines and Ryan Taylor popped up to score Shipley’s second, again after a scramble in the home team’s box.

With ten minutes left, Barnham again looked most likely to score and had several half chances to ensure the three points. But it wasn’t to be and Shipley’s top marksman Cave found himself unmarked in the box and crashed home a winner.
