Beard remains upbeat and wants Loxwood to get on another fine run

Loxwood boss Mark Beard remained upbeat as Horsham inflicted their first defeat in 11 games and challenged his side to go on another run.

His bright young side have caught the eye with their flowing brand of football in the division which had helped them to a ten-match winning run in all competitions.

And despite that ending on Tuesday night in a 4-0 loss at Horsham, Beard refused to be downbeat and believes his side will learn from it.

He said: “We have been on a great run and Horsham are a great team, we knew that. If you make mistakes at the back we knew they would punish us and they have.

“On the whole, we have played, in patches. We haven’t created that many chances although had a few at the end, but it was a good game. Horsham are obviously champions-elect anyway and every week it’s like a cup final for teams to play against them.

“We had two or three chances before they went 1-0 up. Tom Summerfield hit the post and Eddie French had a header and we have given a goal away as they have hit us on the counter and two minutes later scored another by players just not picking up.

“I think 4-0 probably wasn’t a true reflection of the game as for people that weren’t here it probably looked like we got battered, but that wasn’t the case.

“On reflection of the game they haven’t had to work hard for the four goals we have really given them to them, but the boys have been brilliant and I can’t fault their effort again.

“They are young lads and I have said to them you win as a team, you lose as a team and learn from it. We have St Francis Saturday and we need to pick ourselves up for that.

“It just wasn’t our night, we had two off the line at the end, so we put it to bed and look forward to the next run of games.”
