Bees given a Legge up by Leon

The local lad headed home at the second attempt to salvage a 3-3 draw at home to Milton Keynes Dons on New Year’s Eve, completing the comeback from 3-0 down at half time.

Legge, an aerially strong central defender now halfway through his third season at Griffin Park, also clinched a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth in another League One fixture on Boxing Day, again with a header.

The story of 26-year-old Legge is something of a footballing fairytale as he was plucked from Tonbridge Angels in summer 2009 having also played for Sussex non-league clubs Lewes, Hailsham Town and Eastbourne United.

After giving up his job as a care worker for adults with learning difficulties to turn professional, he made his Brentford debut in September 2009 and started his first league game three months later.

Legge hasn’t looked back since. He was a player of the round in the FA Cup during the 2009/10 campaign and was named supporters’ player of the year at the end of his debut season with the Bees.

He remained a firm presence at the heart of the defence last term and has now played more than 75 games for the West London club, including the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley last April.

Former Bexhill High School and Bexhill College student Legge, who played youth football for Little Common and turned out for Sidley United under-18s, is contracted to Brentford until June 2014.
