Golds made it seven league games without defeat with a comfortable win against Hassocks on Saturday and Bennett said: “It’s a really open division this year, we are nearly halfway through and no team is running away with it.

“Last season, East Preston won the title and were well ahead of the chasing pack for most of the season.

“This year presents a really good chance for us to win the title and I am hoping we can do that.”

Despite such a strong start to the season, Bennett feels that his side have failed to find their top level so far.

He added: “The pleasing thing from my point of view is that we have not really played to our full potential this season yet and we are still close to the top of the table.

“Joe Shelley and Darren Boswell are both good additions and, on Saturday, our first half performance showed what we can achieve and how we can play.

“Hopefully, we can recreate that type of performance for the remainder of the season and really try to push for the title.”
