Golds have their last first-team pre-season friendly away to Ryman League Burgess Hill on Saturday, before they begin their County League Division 1 season at Hassocks on August 10.

Bennett said: “I can’t wait for the season to start and to get going again as pre-season is always a bit of a nightmare.

“We’ve got a tough start in the league with Hassocks away and then we’re at Pagham the following Tuesday, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Bennett has signed winger Scott Hunt, who played at Southwick the season before last, and is hopeful of adding another signing or two.

He said: “I’m looking for a couple more. I’m looking for someone experienced as we are a fairly young side and we might need that experience when games are tight next season.

“I’m also hoping to get someone else signed on before Saturday, but I feel we’re a stronger squad than last season and a lot more balanced.”

Hunt joins Liam Humphreys, Ash Harper and Mark Burgess as Golds’ summer signings.
