Bexhill seek happy home finale

The Pirates will play their final Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two home game of the season against lowly Storrington tomorrow (Saturday), kick-off 3pm.

Bexhill’s most recent fixture at The Polegrove, incidentally, was the Christmas derby against Little Common.

Munday said: “We’re all looking forward to it. We can’t wait to play back at home. It’s been a long time coming after we had all those home games early on and let’s have a good performance.”

Fourth-placed Bexhill could only manage a 3-3 draw against second-bottom Storrington in November’s reverse fixture.

“It’s one we need to turn around because we had a poor draw away from home,” continued Munday. “As I’ve said all season, we seem to have not performed against those sort of sides and it will be a good time to put it right as we build for next year.”

Munday is available again following suspension, but Andy Garman is still banned and Andy Atkin has a prior engagement.

Little Common, meanwhile, will be determined to end their away programme on a triumphant note. The Commoners will face Steyning Town in their final away game of the Sussex Division Two season tomorrow.

Player-manager Russell Eldridge said: “We’ll be looking to get the win and end our away games with three points. But it’s always a tough place to go and you don’t really know what you’re going to get from Steyning.”

Eighth-placed Common are three places and seven points above Steyning having played three more matches.

Common have lost only to the division’s top two since the turn of the year, whereas Steyning have lost their last four and haven’t won for more than three months.

Common, who were 3-2 winners in September’s reverse fixture, will be looking to build on a decent display in their most recent outing, a 2-1 loss away to Wick & Barnham United two weeks ago.

“Wick was a good performance and on another day we could’ve been two or three up at half time,” continued Eldridge. “It’s a bit disjointed at the moment, playing one week, not playing the next. We’ll be keen to get back playing and find a bit of continuity where we can.”

Alex Carey is working, but Common should otherwise be around full strength.
