The Pirates boss is hoping to bring in Steve Hickman-Smith from Saltdean United as they prepare to take on Worthing United on Saturday and Seaford Town on Tuesday.

Light said: “We are a young squad and the return of Hickman-Smith will give us that bit more experience and physicality.”

United have had a great start to the season, winning all three of their SCFL Division 2 games so far. But Light does not want his side to become complacent.

He said: “After the long summer break, we’ve had a really positive start to the season.

“With that said we know it is just a start and we are certainly not getting ahead of ourselves with such a long season ahead.

“I think after we’ve completed our next three games, all of which are against teams who could potentially be in the promotion mix we’ll know more about where we are at.”

And Light knows it will not be easy against the Mavericks tomorrow.

He said: “Worthing United were the only away team to win at The Polegrove last season and we know we will have to be fully focused if we are to stop a repeat of that.”

And Tuesday night could be tougher, with Light predicting big things for their opponents.

He said: “On Tuesday night we then make the trip to Seaford Town which in my time at Bexhill has always been a happy hunting ground.

“Looking in at the amount of new signings they have made I fully expect them to be around the top four come the end of the season and as always I’m expecting a full on battle between two good sides.”

Little Common will be looking to bounce back from their FA Cup defeat to Corinthian Casuals (see report and reaction on page 70) when they host Loxwood tomorrow.

Russell Eldridge’s side, who have drawn all three league games so far, then travel to Newhaven on Tuesday night.

Sidley United were edged out by Forest Row in yet another crazy encounter between the sides as the Blues finished with 10 men for the second meeting in a row. The Blues have another tough match tomorrow (Friday as they travel to Ringmer AFC.
