Block bemoans lack of goalscorers as Wick go down at Ringmer

Block said: “It was disappointing, these are the sort of games we need to win to stay in this division.

“We need a lucky goal to fly in off someone’s knee, and we don’t have an out-and-out striker.

“We had Danny Towers sent off but it was never a red card, and we didn’t get the decisions we needed.

“There can be no excuses for the performance, though – we were poor against a beatable side.

“We need to win these games to stay up, but there’s a long way to go and if we keep plugging away we’ll be okay.”

Ringmer won through Kieran Patel’s goal early in the second half, although Wick had several chances to fashion an equaliser through Jamie Wrigley, and Brett Forden.

Danny Towers was sent off after a scuffle in the second half, a decision which baffled Block. He said: “It was a bad decision, Danny was on the floor and we thought he had got kicked, yet the ref has sent him off for violent conduct. It was frustrating and a very harsh decision.”

Wick host Crowborough in the John O’Hara Cup second round on Saturday.
