Block rues missed chances as Wick exit cup at the hands of Crowborough

WICK Football Club boss Gary Block was again left to rue missed chances in his side’s 1-0 John O’Hara Cup defeat to Crowborough, but is hopeful of signing two strikers.

Block has put seven-day approaches in for Pagham striker George Gaskin, who scored 26 goals for Wick last season, and Arundel’s Rob Wimble.

Block said: “The only thing that’s holding us back is the lack of a goalscorer, and I’ve put seven dayers in for Rob and George, which could be what we need to start winning and turn the corner.

“It’s a confidence thing, and is frustrating, but if those two sign then it’ll give everyone a lift. We always knew it was going to be difficult, but on Saturday we did all right, and it was the same old story.”

Andy Brown and Scott Dormer both missed the target, and Brett Forden also went close, but Wick were made to rue these missed chances, when Ross Campbell fired Crows in front four minutes after half-time.

Wick’s Ruben French then had an effort saved, but the solitary goal proved enough for Crowborough.

WICK: Forster; Urquhart, Bonniface, Bradshaw, Bagura; Brown, D.Towers, French, Wilkins, Dormer; Forden. Subs: Wrigley, Asare (Wilkins, Bagura 70), Sells (Brown 76).
