Blues boss aiming high

John Lambert believes his in-form Sidley United team is capable of achieving a top half finish this season.

The Blues are up to 13th in Division One of the Sussex County Football League having won five and drawn two of their last eight games in all competitions.

Sidley manager Lambert said: “It was a rocky start, but we’re getting there. We’re now getting to grips with the league. The players are realising you’ve got to graft for it and they’re doing it for me.

“We’re in a decent bit of form and we’re playing some decent football. As I’ve said all along, I think we’ll be okay this year and we’re quite confident we can finish top half.”

The 14-man squad for last weekend’s victory over Chichester City contained just five members of last season’s promotion-winning set-up with several key players having moved on, plus a pair of long-term injuries.

“If we’re on song, we’re a match for anyone in that league - Three Bridges included (Sidley were unfortunate to lose 4-3 away to Bridges back in August). The boys we’ve got in are starting to show and prove their worth,” added Lambert.

Sidley could move 10 points clear of the relegation zone with victory away to third-bottom Wick on Saturday.
