Blues close the gap on Southwick with home win

RUSTINGTON Football Club manager Ryan Morten was full of praise for his side after a 3-0 win at home to Southwick in County League Division 2 on Saturday.

The win moved third-from-bottom Blues to within four points of fourth-from-bottom Southwick and also kept them out of the relegation zone, as second-from-bottom Oakwood also won, 4-2 at home to Bexhill.

Speaking after Saturday’s win, Morten said: “It’s massive, not just at the bottom of the table but it’s massive for us. It’s our first clean sheet of the season as well, so that is really pleasing.

“I know Southwick are above us, so to drag them towards us is helpful. It’s just a case of equalling or bettering Oakwood’s results now to stay above them and stay above the bottom two.”
