Midhurst’s 2-1 win at home to Loxwood meant Blues could no longer finish out of the bottom two, although Wick’s win made it a superb Easter weekend for them after they had beaten leaders Eastbourne United on Saturday.

After an even opening, Wick took the lead through a Joss Parsons penalty on 25 minutes, after a foul by Sam Johnson.

Wick then netted three times in the opening ten minutes of the second half to all but end the match as a contest.

Matt Noble made it 2-0 on 48 minutes, before Mark Pedrick got the third from a corner on 52 minutes, with Blues feeling they should have been awarded a goal kick instead of the flag-kick.

Noble got his second on 55 minutes and then completed his hat-trick ten minutes later. Dan Cox added the sixth in the final minute.

Blues manager Trevor Waller said: “It was a bit of a disaster as we were fighting for our lives. Results went for us on Saturday but they didn’t on Monday.

“I think if they’d won by two or three, it would have been fair but six was a bit harsh on us.

“We’ll wait to see what happens with the league in the summer now although, if we do go down, Division 3 wouldn’t be a bad place for us at the moment.

“We’ve got a lot of young lads coming through, who are going to be good players, so going down wouldn’t be a bad thing.”
