Bosham and Sidlesham's cup joy - but Lavant bow out

Bosham and Sidlesham both progressed in the Sussex Intermediate Cup first round - but Lavant went out after a brave fight.

Bosham 4 Lancing Reserves 0

Bosham got their cup campaign off to the best of starts with a very comfortable drubbing of Lancing reserves, at Walton Lane.

Both teams made a bright start but the Reds edged in front after 20 minutes with a piece of magic from Marco Giambelardini.

He received the ball on the edge of the box and turned beautifully and drove a firm shot low into the bottom corner.

Dan Coughlan had Lancing’s first real effort on goal only to see his chip over the keeper go narrowly wide. Bosham caused Lancing problems in an increasingly one-sided game and it was 2-0 on the half-hour through James Bracher.

The diminutive striker charged into the box and fired into the top corner, across the despairing dive of Charlie Culver.

Michael Rodway, deputising for the injured John Pope, was having an excellent game between the sticks and kept Bosham in front as Lancing tried to find a way back into the tie.

In second half the Reds continued to pile on the pressure and on the hour, Marc Maunder got their third to the delight of manager Tony Hancock.

Maunder was the recipient of great build-up work from Joe Hancock and applied a superb finish to the roof of the net.

Bosham were buzzing and they managed a fourth when Bracher grabbed his second to seal a fantastic win for the Reds.

Boss Hancock said: “It was a great result and great performance from one and all – there’s just a need not to be complacent next time out.”

Littlehampton Town Res 1 Sidlesham 3

Sidlesham progressed in the cup with a fine win at Littlehampton.

The Sids showed their intentions from the start by taking the game to their hosts and Town found it difficult to withstand the determination of their visitors.

The Sids scored first when, from a corner, Andy Hounsome placed the ball out of the reach of the home keeper to give them a half-time lead.

A second goal was not long coming as a cross from the left was met by a superb volley from John Phillips.

Following a mix-up between the home keeper and a defender, Tom Bailey was on hand to slot home their third.

With 20 minutes to go Littlehampton were awarded a free-kick and the Sids defence was caught flat-footed allowing Littlehampton to score.

Sids withstood the pressure and had time to go to the other end and hit the post. Hounsome was named man of the match.

Lavant 4 Old Town Athletic 5

This Intermediate Cup tie turned into a real thriller as Lavant entertained their rivals from Eastbourne at Raughmere Park.

The home side started confidently with Ryan Seacombe turning a Stuart Loversidge cross into the net to give Lavant the lead on four minutes.

Visiting keeper Liam Morris denied Seacombe a second minutes later and then Matt Stevens fired over the bar.

The turning point came from a free-kick in the D when Shane Norvell equalised for Athletic, before the game turned into a free-for-all.

Seacombe restored Lavant’s lead on 27 minutes, only for Sean Feeney to take it away again with a 33rd-minute goal. Lavant’s Price then had a goal disallowed.

A brilliant individual goal by Loversidge four minutes later put the home side ahead only for it to be levelled by Olly Mayhew five minutes from half-time.

In the second half Mike Bartley put Lavant ahead on 53 minutes but Norvell equalised 11 minutes later.
