Bosham turn up the heat on Dorking at the top

Division-three leaders Dorking are feeling the pinch after Bosham managed a hard-fought win against Broadbridge Heath to reduce the gap at the top to three points '“ and with a fixture between the top two just weeks away.

Ben Blanshard and Kieran Hartley got the goals but the Reds were hanging on a little at the end and came off relieved at sealing another three points.

Blanshard opened the scoring after seven minutes when he lashed the ball home at the back post after a free kick from Bradley Miles was missed by everyone except the centre-half.

Jamal Sultan was a constant threat for the Blues and looked dangerous every time he got the ball, going on mazy runs and setting up a number of gilt-edged chances that no-one could get on the end of.

Hartley doesn’t score that regularly for the Reds, but when he does it’s usually one to remember and this strike certainly was. In the right place at the right time, the midfielder let fly with a thunderous volley from nearly 30 yards which flew into the net despite the best of efforts of keeper Ken Westoby.

The second half was a different story. Bosham took their foot off the gas, allowing the Blues spells of possession.

One felt a goal for the Blues would change the complexion of the game and maybe awaken Bosham from their quiet slumber, and sure enough that happened.

Martyn Flack got his head to a corner at the near post, to give Broadbridge a lifeline, but Bosham went on the attack and came mighty close to restoring their two-goal lead and would have done so if it had not been for the excellent work of Westoby.

Passions boiled over a little at times but Bosham held on.
