Newhaven FC joint manager Sean Breach praised his front three after the Dockers returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 win away to current SCFL Premier Division leaders AFC Uckfield Town.

The Dockers were looking to respond to defeat against Saltdean United last time out – their first league loss since November 2019 – and did so in ruthless fashion.

The hosts were unbeaten going into the game but found themselves 3-0 down before the half hour mark against a rampant Newhaven.

Alfie Rogers set the Dockers on their way within the first minute, scoring from long range, before Lee Robinson doubled the lead in the 14th minute. And the scoring was completed by James Jeffrey who tapped in from close range to make it three-nil after 26 minutes.

Newhaven were happy to see out the second half without too much threat to Jake Buss’ goal and seal an impressive three points.

Joint-manager Breach was pleased with side’s performance and the problems his front three caused their opponents.

“It was an excellent away win at a very tough place to go,” said Breach. “Uckfield were top of the league, unbeaten in eight and had only conceded four league goals so far.

“We started very well, scoring three within 25 minutes, and could have had two or three more. Our front three’s movement of Alfie Rogers, Lee Robinson and James Jeffery were causing them a lot of problems.

“The message at half time was just to see it out and that’s exactly what we did. Neither team threatened and the second half was a non-event, and it suited us. It was pleasing to get another clean sheet as well.”

Up next for Newhaven is a home league fixture against Alfold, and Breach is looking forward to another tough test.

“Saturday will be another tough game,” added Breach. “We’ve had a really tough start so far and Alfold will be no different.

“They haven’t started as well as I thought they would, but we won’t be underestimating them and with the attacking players they have we will need to be at our best.”

Newhaven host Alfold at the Trafalgar Ground on Saturday 17th October, 3pm kick off.
