United’s second victory and clean sheet in four days moved them outside the Ryman Football League Premier Division’s two relegation places, above Wingate & Finchley on goal difference with three games in hand.

“I’m made up with them,” said Ray, who scored the opening goal with a header from Lee Carey’s free kick. “We carried on from Monday (when United won 1-0 away to Kingstonian to move off the bottom).

“Like I’ve said before, we spoke after the game Saturday (when United lost 1-0 away to Bognor Regis Town). The boys were a little bit down, a little bit deflated. The two performances against Bognor and Whitehawk were not terrible; a little bit more here and there, and we would’ve at least got points out of them.

“They’ve responded brilliantly this week. Lee Carey’s come in for a lot of criticism, but Monday and today I think he’s been outstanding. Jamie Crellin’s come back into the side and been absolutely superb. They want it; they’ve got that hunger, they’ve got that desire back.

“With Sam Adams you know exactly what you’re going to get. Attitude, desire and commitment are absolutely superb. He sets an example for everyone else. It’s easy to single players out, but they’ve stood up and been counted, all of them.

“The six points have been thoroughly deserved. I think we were superb, especially in the second half. We kept going, kept together and in the second half we got our rewards. It’s a great team effort now.”

It was only United’s third home league victory of the season (and first since November) and Harrow are the first team they’ve done the ‘double’ over having won 1-0 in the reverse fixture on the August bank holiday.
