A Darren Boswell brace within three second-half minutes sealed victory against a decent Newhaven outfit, who had levelled Adam Hunt’s early goal midway through the first half.

EP manager Dominic Di Paola saluted his depleted side’s character to turn things around after a sloppy end to the first half, as well as recognising the benefits of having a big squad.

He said: “The first half started really well and then, for some strange reason, we backed off and gave them a bit of respect. I gave the boys a bit of a hard time at half-time, but to be fair they sorted themselves out and came out really strong after the break.

“We got to grips with them and credit to the boys as we are walking wounded at the moment.

“It just shows how important a strong squad is as last year we would have gone out of the cup as we didn’t have the strength in depth.”
