Brand set for Westfield return

Westfield are expecting to complete the transfer of Lawrence Brand from Sidley United tonight (Thursday).

A Westfield player for many years, the experienced midfielder or full-back trained with the club on Tuesday night and is likely to go straight into the squad for Saturday’s trip to Southwick.

Joint manager Tony Harris said: “He brings some quality, some experience and a bit of knowhow at this level. He can play centre-half as well which is great because he gives us that flexibility. We’re delighted to have him back.”

Harris added that striker David Pugh is set to stay following a seven-day approach from fellow Sussex County Football League Division Two club Bexhill United, who Pugh helped to clinch promotion from Division Three in 2009/10.

“He’s told us he’s got no interest in going and we’re confident that he’s staying with us,” Harris said. “Dave’s been a valuable part of the club for the last two-and-a-half, three seasons.”

Westfield are 11th in Sussex County Football League Division Two with seven points from as many matches, while Southwick are two points better off from two fewer games.
