Breaking news: Rye game off

Rye United’s game at home to Peacehaven & Telscombe tonight (Tuesday) has been postponed.

The all-Sussex County Football League Division One John O’Hara League Challenge Cup second round tie has fallen victim to all the rain that’s fallen over the past couple of days.

Rye secretary Roger Bond said: “It’s flooded down one end, the dressing room end, and we’re expecting a bit more (rain later today) as well.”

Scott Price, Rye’s manager, had been planning to give a debut to Ollie Jones between the posts with regular goalkeeper Callum Christie “lacking confidence at the moment”.

Influential striker Andy Atkin was very doubtful having come off injured during the 3-1 league defeat away to Hassocks at the weekend.

Although still in September, Rye have now had one match postponed and another abandoned this season. The Quarterboys are due to return to action on Saturday with a visit from Lingfield in the league.
