Adam Lallana explains why improving Brighton can win at Manchester United

Lallana has been excellent for Brighton of late and has been a key reason why Albion have picked up six points from their last two matches.

Brighton face a stern challenge to extend that winning run against a Manchester United team who are second in the table but Lallana believes winning at Liverpool earlier this campaign shows what his team are capable of.

Graham Potter's men were excellent during their 1-0 triumph at Anfield and they also performed well in the narrow 1-0 loss at league-leaders Man City.

Lallana feels they are now well equipped to compete against the Premier League giants - something that perhaps was not the case when he first arrived.

"Our mentality is changing," said the 32-year-old former Liverpool player. "When I came here in the summer, did I feel we could go to big team in their back yard?...I'm not sure.

"I feel that side of our game, our belief and mentality is changing. It can't happen over night, there are processes you have to go through. It is hard to explain but people that know football know that does not happen overnight.

"It comes with a consistent level of training, a consistent level of standards and discipline among the group. I feel that is coming and what a great test our next match is at Old Trafford. There is no reason why we cannot go there and take all three points."

Lallana joined Brighton on a three-year contract on a free transfer from Liverpool last summer. Lallana admits it has taken time for him to adjust to his new surroundings and also a different role within the team.

The former England international, who previously worked under Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton and Jugen Klopp at Liverpool, also feels Potter is the perfect manager for him at this stage of his career.

“I'm sure Graham wouldn't want me comparing him with Jurgen Klopp or [Mauricio] Pochettino but he's of that ilk, the way he wants to play," Lallana said.

“Graham is an unbelievable young manager and it has been superb working with him. I think the style he wants to play suits me down to ground.

“It has probably taken a bit of time for him to learn how I play and how much I need to train.

“I feel at the moment we are in a good place, not just Graham, but the medical team and the sports science team.

"They are learning about me and my body and how I play and how much I need to train and, as a result of that, probably fine-tuning it perfectly.

"He (Potter) thinks about the game differently to how I think about it but in such a great way. It's great working with a different manager because you always pick up things.

"I'm delighted we have picked these points lately because there have been difficult moments, we have not got the points we deserved and within that comes pressure and then you are in a relegation battle.

"But he has remained clam throughout, a calming influence and he has had our back the whole way. That has been huge because it keeps us calm and we didn't want panic.

"Especially playing the style of football the boss wants us to play."
