Arsenal transfer target Yves Bissouma reveals the secret behind his dramatic improvement

Bissouma is a key performer in the Albion midfield and played a vital role in some of Brighton's more memorable results this campaign.

The 24-year-old was outstanding in the victory at Liverpool and also featured prominently in the midfield battle as Albion beat Jose Mourinho's Spurs at the Amex Stadium at the end of January.

It's been a period of huge progress for Bissouma who initially struggled for game time in Graham Potter's first season at the club.

But the departure of the experienced Dale Stephens to Burnley and niggling injuries to Davy Propper presented an opportunity in central midfield and the £15 million signing from Lille has grasped his chance in style.

His displays have apparently caught the eye of Liverpool, who are seeking a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, and also Arsenal.

His agent said earlier this season that there is "significant interest" in his client with Monaco, Man United and Real Madrid all said to be keen.

Bissouma however admits there is still room for improvement and credits his Albion teammates as the reason for his fine displays.

“If I play well then it's because the team has helped me to do that," he said. "On your own, you can't do anything but when you have the help of your team-mates, then you can achieve good things.

“In the big games like against Spurs, we gave everything to win; we kept going, we kept working together and the result was amazing. It was the same against Liverpool – it's about working well as a team, it’s never about one individual.

“In both those games as a team we worked well together. Success as a team comes when you work well together, so there is still more to come from us and there is still more to come from me."

Bissouma has made 77 Premier League appearances following his arrival in 2018 on a five year contract. Potter believes he has matured as a player and his concentration and the tactical side of his game has improved.

“I'm still new to the Premier League in terms of appearances," Bissouma added. "I have much more to learn and know I can be much better.”

“You make one mistake and you can be punished and lose a game. But I now know what the coach and the team wants me to do. As a result, I feel better than last season.

“I think I'm playing well and feel more comfortable playing in the division. Both my defensive and tactical side have improved compared to what it was before.”
