Duffy is believed to have sustained a nasty injury in training that required an operation to remove a blood clot in his leg.

The operation is said to have gone well but the 28-year-old is expected to be out for two to three weeks. It is believed Duffy has been carrying a groin injury for a while.

The centre back has not been a regular under Graham Potter this season and has often been dropped in favour of £20m summer signing Adam Webster.

It's still represents a blow for Albion however as his experience could have proved useful in their crucial upcoming matches against West Ham and lowly Watford.

Following a poor run of form, Brighton are just two points above the Premier League drop zone.
