Tony Bloom praised the persuasive powers of Albion’s head coach Fabian Hurzeler after a £200m summer transfer spend.

Hurzeler has impressed at Brighton since arriving from Bundesliga club St Pauli earlier this summer. The German head coach has steered Albion to seven points from their first three Premier League fixtures and also progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup after a fiery 4-0 victory against League One Crawley Town.

Hurzeler, 31, has adapted well to the change of club, a different league, a new country and the dealing with the media. He has also had to deal with the scrutiny of being the youngest ever manager in the Premier League, all alongside a remarkable transfer window that saw £200m worth of talent arriving as well seeing many depart on loan or permanent transfers, such as Deniz Undav, Billy Gilmour and Pascal Gross.

It’s been a chaotic but excellent start for Hurzeler, which has not gone unnoticed by Albion chairman Bloom.

"He does not get too emotionally high or low,” said Bloom speaking to the Brighton podcast on the Albion website. “Obviously it good to show emotion, when goals go in at the last minute, everyone is going to exuberant. But in his day to day business he is really calm, which is really important. “He has come to a new league, club and country. It's the best league in the world and the fact he speaks really good English is a big advantage. Then we have lots of transfer activity, lots of new players coming in.

"We try for him not to get too involved in that. His main role is the players we have and the coaching but naturally he's involved with the players we have coming in. And that has gone a lot better than I could have ever envisaged. His ability to communicate with the players, staff and media has all gone better than I could hoped for. The first three games have gone so well and it's big bonus.”

Despite Hurzeler’s limited input on incoming transfers, Bloom admits the new players – such as Georginio Rutter, Yankuba Minteh, Matt O’Riley, Mats Wieffer and Ferdi Kadıoğlu – have all brought in to the ideas of the young German coach.

Bloom added: “Fabian is a very young head coach but when he's had conversations with potential players they have really brought in his ideas. That conversation has gone really no doubt about that. We have had success in the Premier League and qualified for Europe. The stadium the facilities here at the training ground are superb. The reputation we have got.

"Our chances of those signings being a success are increasing year by year because of what we are doing internally. We bring in a really top young player and they improve in the environment and under Fabian's coaching. Then you end up with a world class player. That is what our aim is.”
