Tau experienced his first taste of English football last Sunday as a second half substitute during Albion's FA Cup penalty shootout victory at Newport.
The South African international, who was recalled from his loan in Belgium last week, could now be thrust into Brighton' s starting XI and partner Neal Maupay in attack.
Brighton are struggling with injuries as Tariq Lamptey (hamstring), Aaron Connolly (hamstring), Danny Welbeck (knee) and Adam Lallana (illness) are all missing.
Alireza Jahanbakhsh is also doubtful having picked up a 'minor injury' in Newport.
Scroll down and click through to see how Albion could line-up for this one.
1. Robert Sanchez
Jason Steele performed heroics in the shootout at Newport but Robert Sanchez is expected to return to the starting XI for the Premier League. No sign as yet that Maty Ryan will be recalled
2. Ben White
Came off against Newport and looked to nursing a tight hamstring but expected to be fit for the Etihad and likely to line-up on the right side of the defensive trio
3. Lewis Dunk
Excellent against Newport and starting to show his value to the team once more in defence and attack. Has two goals in his last three PL matches. Will be relieved Augero is not playing for City
4. Adam Webster
Has improved as the season has progressed and will likely be on the left side of the defensive trio for the City clash. Solid defensively and distribution is improving
