Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk issues this firm warning message to Chelsea's Timo Werner

Brighton had a glimpse of some of Chelsea's new signings during their 1-1 pre-season draw at the Amex draw.

Franks Lampard's team have spent more than £200m this transfer window so far on Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr.

German striker Werner looked sharp in the Amex friendly and opened the scoring on his Blues debut when he evaded Dunk and the Albion defence to fire home after just three minutes.

Dunk, 28, admitted it was useful to take a look at Chelsea's new talent and is looking forward to facing them on Monday night's curtain raiser.

"He (Werner) scored in the friendly but hopefully he won't do that Monday night, hopefully I can stop him.

"They had some people missing. It's strange to play another Premier League team in a pre-season friendly. You don't usually do that but it was a workout.

"They had players that were not there that will be involved in their squad on Monday. It was a good test and it was good to see a couple of their new signings.

"They have brought well and brought sensibly and that will improve them as a team. We have to be ready for that challenge."

Dunk has also been impressed with the pre-season contribution from Ben White, who returned following a successful loan spell at Leeds.

Dunk and White are set to form the foundation of the Albion defence this season.

"I think we can expect a lot from him," Dunk added. "Obviously it will take him time to get used to the Premier League, he's been playing in the Championship.

"But he's a top player and he's got great potential to kick-on and become a an amazing player and have a good career ahead of him.

"He's going to be a joy to play alongside. He's good on the ball, which helps me when passing the ball and keeping it simple. He's going to be a pleasure to play with I think."

Brighton broke their record points tally in the Premier League last season but Dunk had mixed views on their form form and hopes for better this campaign.

"We started off well but then we got to the Christmas period and didn't win until lockdown.

"That was a tough period to go through and lockdown probably came at a good time for us in football ways.

"It let us work hard in the lockdown and everyone came back fit and it gave us time to prepare and go again for the rest of the season.

"We got our best ever total and hopefully we can kick-on and beat that again this year.

"We have had a full season under the gaffer. His coaching and man management is unbelievable. All the boys are enjoying it and loving him as a gaffer."

Brighton, by comparison to Chelsea, had a far quieter transfer window. So far they have signed Adam Lallana, 32, on a free from Liverpool and Dutch international defender Joel Veltman for £900,000 from Ajax.

Dunk feels new arrival Lallana will add quality and experience to the squad.

"He's a Premier League winner and he's done it recently so, he's come in and he's been outstanding," said Dunk. "He's good around the training ground and good on the pitch.

"He has got so much experience to give to the young boys and even me. I can learn from him and he's a great addition to the squad and I think he can help us.

"He wants to help people get better. We have had a few conversations and the more he helps people, he will have better people around him and that can make him play better.

"He's worked hard in training and he's raring to go."

Many thought this would be the transfer window where Dunk departed and he was heavily linked with a £40m to move this summer to Chelsea.

But the Albion skipper ended speculation by signing a new and improved five year contract and now wants to help Albion to an opening day victory against the team that wanted to sign him.

"I'm enjoying my football in my home town. I want to stay here and improve this club. I have been on a journey with them from the start and I want to be on this journey until I can no longer run."
