However, that could be about to change. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Seagulls have expressed an interest in central defender Oscar Mingueza.
A product of the Barca academy, Mingueza has become an established member of the first-team set up after grasping the opportunity given to him by Ronald Koeman last November.
However, in order for the Spaniard to stay put at the Camp Nou this summer, the Catalans need to exercise an option to extend his contract until 2023 – or he is able to walk away for free.
Indeed, the player and Barcelona both want the extension, though a decision must be made before May 31.
Assuming Mingueza’s deal is extended, Brighton are reportedly among several clubs who are keen to sign him, either on loan or permanently.
Albion, Real Betis and Sampdoria, are the “first ones to sound out” Mingueza, with a decision expected on his future soon.
Elsewhere, Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Dion Sanderson, linked with Brighton via the Daily Mail earlier this month, could be available for just £2million in the summer.
The 21-year-old has impressed on loan at League One side Sunderland but as he enters the final year of his contract, Wolves are considering cashing in, as per Football Insider.
