The former Manchester United and Arsenal striker joined Brighton on a free transfer following a frustrating and injury-hit season Watford.

Welbeck made his first start for Albion in the 0-0 draw against Burnley at the Amex last Friday and despite missing a couple of decent chances, the 29-year-old produced an encouraging display.

Welbeck looked fit and full of running as he led the line with fiery French striker Neal Maupay playing just behind in a slightly deeper role.

Burn, who played at left wing back in the absence of Solly March, has been impressed with Welbeck's matchday contribution but also on the training pitch.

“From the very first training session he was with us you could see his quality," said Burn.

“He holds the ball up well, can run in behind and his finishing is very good.

“It's a good bit of business and if he keeps getting a lot of chances then he will score a lot of goals.

“Neal [Maupay] has played there as well, and he was very good coming in from the left [on Friday] and was unlucky not to get a goal too.”

Brighton did some shrewd business over the summer as they also brought in Adam Lallana on a free transfer from Liverpool.

Lallana was man of the match against Burnley and Burn feels the duo add much needed top level experience to a youthful Brighton squad.

“He's [Lallana] been in good form for us and I think he's changed our mentality a bit as well," Burn said.

“He's done it all in the game during his career and as we're quite a young squad, it's good to have that experienced head in the dressing room.

“Both him and Danny Welbeck have been two really good signings and they'll only help us improve and get better.”
