Tau is skilful left footed player who has pace and likes to run at defenders. He has 12 goals in 28 games for his country and is hugely popular with fans back in South Africa.

He joined Brighton in 2018 from Mamelodi Sundowns but work-permit complications saw him loaned out to Tony Bloom's Belgian side Union SG.

He was voted the Proximus League Player of the Season and then agreed a short-term move to Club Brugge where he won a league winners' medal and made six appearances in the Champions League.

Tau was then loaned out for a third consecutive season to Vincent Kompany's Anderlecht.

McManaman was impressed with his debut display at Newport for Brighton and believes he has to skills to be a threat in the Premier League.

"We will have all of South Africa watching tonight," said McManaman. "He is full of tricks.

"The pitch the other night (at Newport) was not conducive to the way he plays.

"You can see he is sharp and he wants to take people on. He is going to be dynamic and lets hope he can show what he can do."
